Purpose
The purpose of the role is to provide hands-on support to programmes/projects and to play a proactive knowledge management role in the promotion of programme/project management methods, and the roll-out of best management practice. They provide an internal consultancy service to programme/project managers and project boards, delivering hands-on assistance to help define the scope, governance, resource requirements and structure for the effective management of the programme/project, as well as providing, for example, coaching, help, advice and guidance and facilitated workshops to help achieve successful outcomes.
Reporting
The Project/Programme Business Partner will report to the Head of the Project Delivery Team and will work closely with the Head of Project Services and Head of the Portfolio Office.
Key Responsibilities
The key responsibilities of the role include:
- Providing consultancy support at the feasibility stage of potential programmes/projects to help determine scope, approach, appropriate governance, high level early milestones and resource requirements.
- Providing a fast-track programme/project mobilisation support service through collaborative working, facilitated workshops and initial set up and implementation of tailored programme and project methodology.
- Providing consultancy support to the Project Delivery hub to help develop consistent standards and procedures, including templates and guidance in their tailoring across a range of project and programme sizes.
- Providing consultancy support in the design and development of new systems, processes and procedures to ensure best practice remains current
- Working with the Project Delivery Hub to provide a focal point to promote the use and benefits of the programme or project management method, giving a consistent and common approach.
- Providing briefings to programme/project board members on their roles and responsibilities.
- Ensuring that new programmes and projects are aware of, and take on board, lessons learned from previous activities.
- Being the UKRI programme/project management Delivery Team Business Partner, providing coaching and mentoring to staff in all business areas as required at key project stages in key areas such as planning, resource management, costs, benefits and benefits realisation.
- Maintaining relationships with other Government departments, other organisations and professional bodies as appropriate to ensure sharing of knowledge more widely and to keep abreast of latest developments and best practice within the Profession.
